Fabrique de Madera

Our language training is going well.  We have completed seven chapters in four weeks, from pronombre personal de sujeto to complemento directo.  The latter has been structurally the most challenging so far.  The reason for this is that when shortening the direct object from something specific, like "the chair", to a non-specific replacement, like "it",  the impersonal pronoun replacement comes before the verb in Spanish not after the verb as it is in English.  This takes constant reinforcement to overcome our natural propensity to place this pronoun after the verb.

We have our final test on Monday covering these concepts as well as dialog with our teacher on the rooms of the house, the things contained in them, and a multitude of food types.  Hannah is in a class ahead of Amber, Tricia and me, and is doing very, very well.

The last week of March/first week of April is Holy Week and most businesses are closed including the school.  Our first full trimester begins May 5, so we'll have a couple of weeks off to practice our spanish and enjoy the county.

Speaking of enjoying the country;  the student life department coordinated a trip for us this past Friday to the Fabrique de Madera.  This is a factory that makes jewelry, jewelry boxes, and various other wood products from the beautiful array of woods available in Costa Rica.  We toured the plant and later had the opportunity to buy a few things.  The girls of course bought some jewelry which is actually very beautiful.  I provided a few pictures of our trip to the factory below.  I hope you enjoy them.
